Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons light olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup sliced celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans Great Northern beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans HORMEL® Chunk Ham, drained and flaked
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme leaves

Notes

  1. To add extra kick to your ham and bean soup, serve with hot pepper sauce on the side.

Step-by-Step

  1. In 5-quart saucepan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add onion, carrots, celery and garlic; cook, stirring occasionally, 5 to 7 minutes or until vegetables are softened.

  2. Add broth, beans, ham, white pepper and thyme to saucepan. Cook, stirring occasionally, 12 to 15 minutes or until hot and flavors are blended.

  3. Ladle soup into warm bowls. Top with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
