Ingredients

  • 8 (6x4-inch) slices sourdough bread
  • 8 ounces Hormel® Cure 81® Sliced Ham
  • 2 cups shredded Italian cheese blend
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg, if desired
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • Mustard

Directions

  1. Spread one side of each of 4 slices bread with mustard.
  2. Top remaining 4 slices bread with ham. Sprinkle cheese evenly over ham; cover each sandwich with bread, mustard-side-down, pressing lightly.
  3. In shallow dish or pie plate, combine eggs, milk and nutmeg; mix well.
  4. On griddle or in large nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  5. Dip each sandwich in egg mixture, turning to coat. Let excess egg mixture drip back into dish. Place sandwiches on griddle. Cook, turning once, 8 minutes or until cheese is melted and sandwiches are golden brown.
  6. Serve sandwiches with preserves or jam, if desired.
